Train, car or ferry
The Öresundståg runs every twenty minutes during the day between København H and Malmö C. The car makes you independent, but you pay per crossing — not per person.
| Criterion | Car across the bridge | Öresundståg | Helsingør–Helsingborg ferry |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pure travel time | approx. 35–45 min Copenhagen–Malmö | approx. 35 min København H–Malmö C | 20 min crossing, plus the drive there |
| Cost | 64 € online ticket, 25 € with ØresundGO — per vehicle | fare per person, editorially maintained | vehicle tariff, editorially maintained |
| Cheaper from | three people in the car upwards | one or two people | a detour via North Zealand |
| Luggage | unlimited | what you can carry | unlimited |
| In a storm | closure for high-sided vehicles possible | usually keeps running | suspension possible |
| Onward in Sweden | straight onto the E6/E20 | change in Malmö | joins the E6 at Helsingborg |
We maintain rail and ferry fares separately because they depend on the day and the tariff. Bridge tolls follow the official price list valid from 18 May 2026.
The rule of thumb
Two of you without luggage: take the train. Three of you, or with children, bikes and camping gear: take the car — provided you are motorised anyway. If you live in Copenhagen and want a single day in Malmö, the train saves you parking fees that quickly exceed the toll.
Allow for border checks
Sweden checks arrivals on a spot basis — on the train at Hyllie station, on the road after the toll station. Keep identity documents within reach, even on a plain day trip.
