Two cities, one labour market

Copenhagen and Malmö

Thousands live on the Swedish side, where rents are lower, and work on the Danish side, where wages are higher. In 2025 car commuting rose by almost ten per cent.

Copenhagen

From the bridgehead at Kastrup it is ten minutes into the city centre. If you come by car, park on the edge: the city is built for bicycles, not for parking spaces.

Worth a day between two crossings: Nyhavn, the Torvehallerne market hall, the harbour baths at Islands Brygge.

Malmö

The city begins five minutes past the toll station. Västra Hamnen with the Turning Torso stands on the old shipyard grounds; from there you look back at the bridge you have just crossed.

Further south Skåne opens up: sandy beaches at Falsterbo, castles inland, two and a half hours to Gothenburg.
