Motorhome and caravan across the bridge

For large vehicles the Øresund Bridge is doubly tricky: the price jumps at certain lengths, and in a storm high-sided vehicles are the first to be shut out.

Total length is what counts

What matters is the length of the whole rig, not of the towing vehicle: caravans, trailers and anything sticking out at the back all count. A bike rack can push you over a class boundary.

The classes change at six, nine or ten, and fifteen metres. If you are close to a limit, measure before you book — it is checked at the toll station.

Wind: when you are not allowed across

The high bridge stands seven kilometres unprotected in the sound. In a strong crosswind, trailers and high-sided vehicles are banned first — the bridge is then still open to cars but closed to you. Only after that comes the full closure.

Check the wind forecast on the day before you drive the last hundred kilometres. If it looks marginal, the Helsingør–Helsingborg ferry is the fallback: a shorter crossing, less exposed to wind, at the price of a detour through North Zealand.

When the bridge is shut

Storm closures rarely last more than a day. If you would rather not wait in the vehicle, there are rooms around Kastrup and Amager close to the bridge.

Common questions

Does a bike rack count towards the length?

Yes. The measurement is the total length of the vehicle including anything that protrudes. A rack with two bikes can lift a 5.90-metre vehicle into the next class.

Is ØresundGO worth it for a motorhome?

Almost always. Instead of 144 € at the toll station you pay 50 € — so the 51 € annual fee is already covered by the first return trip.

Can I take gas bottles through the tunnel?

Household gas bottles in a motorhome are permitted; dangerous goods have their own rules and time windows. If in doubt, ask the operator beforehand.

Can I stop on Peberholm?

No. The island is a nature reserve — there is no exit and no parking.
